Will This Mess Up My Car???

I've been reading around and it seems like buying a aftermarket airintake makes ur car run lean under boost due the the funky readings the MAS gets and messes up ur car, is that ture? Also, if i bought a deleted silencer intake elbow or hacked off the intake resonator/silencer would it mess up my car (05 WRX) by giving it funky MAS readings? THANX!

If you are unsure, don't buy. Running the engine lean may hurt the engine over time.

I don't know about the '05 models but the silencer mod doesn't give ill effects on the earlier WRXs. Make sure you really want a louder intake. Subaru spent good time and money to quiet down the intake without causing a power loss. Combine a louder intake with exhaust mods and a BOV and you have a car that will also attract the attention of law enforcement.

you'll be fine with the silencer mod. just dont go out and get an intake. also, like wingless wonder said, get ready for a whole lot of trubo spool noise. its cool at first but can get a lil annoying a times.

Make sure you get the silencer delete elbow. I tried removing the silencer, thus sucking air from the fenderwlll and got a cel. I didn't get the code read, but I installed the elbow and reset the ecu and it went away.

Just a thought

If you want to be able to hear the turbo...you will after you get a D/P. I installed my Cobb D/P and can hear the trubo. Sounds neat.

A D/P is a down pipe, a down pipe is the part of the exhaust that connects to the turbo outlet. Here is a link https://www.i-club.com/forums/attach...chmentid=26009.

i doubt the code was "fixed" by the elbow.

I never had it read, but it never came back on, and by deductive reasoning that's the only thing it could've been.

aftermarket intakes can cause lean conditions - yes.

the silencer mod doesn't seem to have any problems. the maf housing in stock, so that won't alter the signal. some other brands of cars have experienced bad maf signals due to very turbulent air across the sensor, but the wrx doesn't have that problem.
