installed the up & down pipes

installed the up pipe and I got a CEL - is the simplest fix getting a resistor like this guy did (5th post down)? > http://www.scoobymods.com/best_damn_...ipe-t6649.html

Also installed a thermal wrapped downpipe and it is touching a hose that I believe is an AC water hose. You can kind of see it in this image http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...tBellmouth.jpg
....it's to the left of the DP, a black hose coming out of the firewall.

My question is, do I need this? I smelt a little rubber burning/melting today while I was stopped at a light.

yeah the resistor will fix it, or you could use em to get rid of the code.

the black drain hose not really important. you can trim it back if you want or try and redirect it away from the downpipe.

Use a 2.2k ohm 1/2 watt resistor. You can buy a package of 5 for $1.00 at your local Radio Shack. As scoobymods thread suggests, trim back the ends a bit so it doesn't stick out. After I covered the connector with electrical tape, I just pushed it back into the grommet with all the other wires. Then I reinstalled the black rectangular cover. Now it looks inconspicuous. And most importantly no CEL.

My drain hose started to get deformed just sitting 4-5mm away from the DP. When I Thermal wrapped the DP, the hos is even closer and sometimes is touching the DP. But the heat coming off the wrap is not hot enough to burn the hose now. Is that a 6 speed you got in there?

I actually have it double-wrapped on that end of the DP and it is touching. Apparently it is not hot enough to melt the rubber while at freeway speeds but stop and go traffic gets hotter and I can smell it through my vents. I actually even saw smoke coming out of the hood at a long light. I think I may just get rid of it since it's not that important.

No, I do not have a 6-speed (i wish though). Standard 02 wagon, that's all.

Oh, I just haven't looked at my trans in a while(forgot what it looked like). Also, do you see where it's burning on the hose? I too smelled burning through my vents and saw smoke coming from that section of the engine bay. Turned out to be my valve cover gasket and little half circle seal on the back of the head where the up and down pipe give off a lot of heat. Just a thought.

Yeah, it's hard to miss since it's touching. It's the part of the downpipe after the turbo near the bottom of the firewall. You should be able to see if from the passenger side.

sorry to revive this old thread, but I tried the resistor last night and for some reason, I still have a CEL. Any other suggestions?

Idk if you have to or not, but after putting in the resistor do you have to reset your ecu?

Not sure what that means but if you're asking if I reconnected the O2 plug, I did. Fit back in just fine.

^ I think he is talking about the CEL that might come from your DP.. from teh looks of it in your pic, it looks like a catless DP, is that correct?

If it is catless, you will throw another cel for the DP (even with the O2 sensor in it)

If its not catless, then you prolly wont have a CEL from it

Make sure to do it right, there is a pretty specific way where you have to leave the battery disconected for like 12hrs or something like that

If its catless it'll definitely throw a cel.
