Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

I think removing that much restriction from the exhaust just about mandates an ECU reflash or other engine management for best power.

"Take"? Not sure what you mean by that. It can pretty much handle (read: compensate for) whatever you throw at it. The problem is, being a conservative bugger, it probabaly wont respond the way you'd like in almost any modification sitaution. Everything seems to be a battle for the ECU, even trying to use UTECs it seems lately we've learned that the ECU eventually, if not wins, mixes it up with the UTEC. I'd say, go with an ECUTEK reflash or VIshnu's Xede.

Thanks for the advice, the ecu reflash or piggyback will come later. but for now the exhaust will have to do. I just don't want to throw the ecu something that will put it in limp mode or run lean.

Well, you'll prolly have to settle unless you know a very good tuner up there. The more they know about Subarus the better. Admittedly from what I hear in the hush-hush grapevine, Vishnu (in the San Francisco Bay Area) pumps out the most problem free ECU setups.

you will feel more power no doubt...some people reset the ecu by disconnecting the neg batt terminal and depressing the brake for 5 sec and then drive it like they stole it for the next few thanks...they say it gives an extra few horsepower...i believe its possible because of the ecu's learning ability...just make sure you know what radio stations you have preset. good luck

the ecu will be able to take any mods on your car. However, for downpipe uppipe u need the cel fix for those. and when u want a bigger turbo u need bigger fuel pumps and bigger fuel injectors and such.

but for what u want to install, those will def be okoay, just do the cel fixes or else you'll be cruising around with a annoying cel light on.

also, with those mods, i think u can get some ecu reflashes in like a vishnu stage 1 or stage 0. i forgot...but either way, reflash are really worth the money, too bad i can't afford it

Your car will run great ! You definatley don't need to run EM with those mods. I've been running similar mods for almost a year now with zero problems. A reflash will help, how much though I don't know.

So if I am running an up-pipe, I/C hoses, and turbo-back now....I can expect a 20+ hp gain from a reflash ? That's a good deal

thanks for the advice,I've seen the ecu learn from run to run , at the track (even the exhaust not changers) as for reseting the ecu, I've read that one car mag dinoed the car reset the ecu and dinoed again and was never able to regain the lost power aprox 15HP.
The cel fixes are a must though.

id like more info on this mag article. chances are they didnt drive the car between the dyno runs or if they drove it, it wasnt long enough for the ecu to learn, or they didnt drive it hard, because ive never heard of any situation like theirs.

I just re-read the article, it wasn't clear if they just made dyno runs or street runs, but they tryed to regain the 10Hp that they lost after resetting the ecu
