For that price you can get a better quality USED STi intercooler.
A friend of mine put one of these on his car...didn't like it, swapped on an STi intercooler and felt the car was much more responsive...
He was running a stock turbo at the time so it may have been too large of an intercooler for it.

/\ not entirely true. The generic ebays are hit and miss. I'd take a stock STi intercooler over a no name TMIC that is only slightly larger and has crappy welds.
If you are getting a reputable TMIC then yes, I'd agree...but the generics off of ebay tend to be just that....generic.

i'm rocking the ebay tmic. works fine.
the single biggest thing you can do for ANY tmic is to properly shroud it. spend the time and seal it well/properly to the hoodscoop and it will absolutely pay off in performance.

I have the front tubing from the Ebay intercooler and its great welds, that look the same as the other welds, now has a hole in it. The intercooler itself is alright, but if you look inside the inner piping is a little rough for my taste and I dont want little metal flakes in my turbo.
If you have the TMIC on and it works that is awesome and I hope it continues to work well for you. Just be careful and watch the welds.

I have a SSautochrome TMIC. I had it coated at crucial. Prior to installing this I had a JDM top mount. The ebay TMIC is a great investment. I know quite a few including myself that have had great luck with them. An after cooler isn't that complex. It's simply a core with some end tanks. To say a name brand it is better, is simply effective marketing.
I bought a TurboXS top mount a few months before the ebay ones started to become popular. I kinda regret paying more....but oh well, thats life and I got a good deal on the TXS.
As far as the STi vs ebay ic's.....no doubt go with an ebay one. Yes, it can be hit or miss but if you get a crappy one, sell it and try again. I looked into getting an STI ic, but sh*t, people try to sell them for WAY too much! Only case I would take an STi over an ebay is if the STi ic were free.

I got my STi intercooler for the same price as one of the e-bay specials.
Have to say for what I was going for the STi was the better built piece.
Not at all impressed with the welds and the irregularities in the surface texture of the pipine and inlets on the ebay one.
But to each his own. If I was going for a more serious upgrade then I would have went with a FMIC, but for what I wanted the STi has done well and I am not worried about the craftsmanship at all.
