How to get spooling sound from wrx?

It seems like everytime some soccermom pulls up next to me in a sporty Saab turbo or some kid pulls up in his daddy's EVO, I can hear their turbos spooling and theirs sounds really cool. I don't know if its just me or the way the boxer is set up but I can't ever seem to hear mine. And YES I did remove the silencer a long time ago and can only mildly hear the whooshing sound back from the stock BOV. Is there any way to "enhance" the spool-up sound to be more audible. And I am nottalking about the noise you get when your BOV is too tight and the air rushes back over the blades of the turbo. If you don't know what I am talking about then next time you see a Saab or an EVO on the freeway or anywhere really, pay attention to its turbo sound.

(Volvos,SRT-4s, VWs, and Audis don't seem to make a very audible noise either, the exhaust on the SRT-4 is obnoxious though so that might drone it. I have heard it from the beetle and the R32 though but not very loud though.)

Removing the snorkus/intake silencer will help with this noise (also allows you to hear the recirc. valve much like a BOV) as will adding an aftermarket DP (as this removes the thick iron piping in favor of thin steel which you can hear through better.) It seems to my ear that the DP was most effective in getting that classic spool up jet engine sound in my car.

If you want the sound invest in a downpipe. I haven't seen one where you can't hear the turbo spool up. Go catless if you want it really loud as well.

Why do Saabs have it without any special downpipes or any other mods to intakes? Does it have to do with where the turbo is placed in the engine bay?

VW stock turbos are audible from a parking lot if you hear one drive by in the street, at normal speeds.

Short ram intake will definetly increase the sound. Also with a twin dump downpipe, like the Bosal, you will be able to hear more spool up and turbo whisle - sounds pretty sweet.

Solid part = low noise

I couldn't hear my turbo at all,...then after I went to Cobb Stage 2 I can hear it at the slightest touch of the gas pedal. The stock down pipe is one heavy peice of work with two restrictive cats (mid-pipe). Once I put in my Cobb Down pipe with High flow metal substrate cat it really let the sound out. The cool thing is, is that the cobb D/P is so well made you cant hear the waste gate at all (a negative side effect you get when using a thin walled D/P.) The guy next to you definately knows that your car is turbo charged....

What do other cars' downpipes look like? Do they have that stupid flange over their waste gate too?
