Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Greddy TZ518Z

I just installed a Greddy TZ518Z. This turbo has been out for awhile, but I had a hard time finding good info on it. It is essentially a subie flanged mitsu TD05 turbine with a 18g compressor. It is not water cooled, to you have to plug the coolant lines. Otherwise installation is the same as anyother bolt on turbo. I haven't had any time to tune it yet, so I am am running a TXS stage 4 with FMIC map on my UTEC. I have yet to boost it past one bar. Even at low boost, it pulls somewhat hard, kinda like a VF-30, but with more lag. Boost comes on around 4000 RPMs, but I think some of that lag can be tuned out. This turbo should really shine at higher boost, I will update when I start to tune.

wow, thats a biggun.

P.S. It's better to loop the lines rather than plug them, as otherwise you might run into problems when you mess with the way the system was designed to flow. In other words, just connect the lines together at some point rather than plug them.

Smile Digging up an old thread i am interested in

I was wondering Ryan how do you think this turbo will perform when used at the track days?? When i think about it most of the time we are not under 3000 RPM's. So the power should be on tap. Yes it spools up late now but would anyone else running an FP18G or this one chime in on what its like when its tuned??

Mario, the guys on nabisco say a tuned FP 18g spools like a VF-30. Let me fix my trans, and then we can see what we can make the greddy do. The only thing I am worried about on the track days is pulling around the hairpin. Getting the turbo to spool again will have much suck.

From what i have been reading on NABISCO they say they spool exactly the same but the 18G of course has more power ponetial up to where the VF30 fall off. It also states were the vf30 feels soft the 18g hits hard. Maybe the Greddy is a little different from the FP18G what do you think.

Also what happend to your trans??

Yeah, I'm guessing the greddy and FP units are a little different. Hard to know for sure though. The greddy uses the 8cm^2 housing where as FP uses the 7cm^2. I wonder if that would make any difference?
As for my transmission... Let's just say I suck. I think I bent a shift fork. Infact, I'll start a thread in the transmission forum, this might be some good info.

Really you have the 8cm^2 housing!! That is totally why your car spools up differently and will hold more boost up top. See the FP18G has the 7cm^2 housing but at request you can get that housing in the 20G and it comes w/. that housing on the green.

Damn i'm sorry about your tranny
