Greddy 2 port EBCS

Hey, my friend is basically giving me one of these Greddy 2 port boost control solenoid, has a dash-mounted controller that you can set two different boost levels in, and switch back and forth between them. It has NO interface with the ECU, just with the dash mount controller.

Now, I know the Subaru ECU has an intricate boost map, I know these cars don't like changes without tunes; my questions are:
1. Will this part be "safe" for an '03 WRX
2. Will it make the stock TD04 spool faster?

Obviously if the answer to any of them is a "No," I'm not going to put it in, but if it'll help, it looks like a cheap upgrade with a very easy install.

I would not mess with any boost controller without some type of monitoring or tuning involved.

Well, it does have some self checking. I have a factory boost gauge and the device will blink red when it goes over a preset boost level.

But yeah I'm with you on the tuning, that's what I've always thought, but he's saying as long as I have it set to factory boost it shouldn't matter. Then again he used to drive a ghetto-boosted 240sx, so he's probably the last person I should be taking advice from.
