got rid of my airbox silencer......

I did this mod last month.
I removed everything*, even the round
rubber thingy attached to the airbox. *(I left on the air scoop).
I dropped in a K&N filter at the same time.
(BTW, my car is bone stock.)
My impressions:
The first few days I regretted doing this mod.
It definitely felt slower. It sounded faster, although it wasn't.
But I could finally hear my turbo and blow-off valve.
After about 5 days or so, the car started to feel better.
It takes a while for the engine to learn.
I didn't want to disconnect my battery to speed up this process.
(hate programming radio stations)
Now, the engine is definitely stronger at about 4000rpm.
Cruising around parking lots in 2nd gear, the motor bogs easier.
So I guess you lose some torque down low.
So after everything, I think it was worth it.
That's my experience with this mod.

better with everything in place.
The increase in induction noise is hardly anything to get
worked up about.
I don't doubt down the line with substantial power mods
elsewhere that the intake system could be a restriction.
But doing it on a otherwise stock vehicle is a waste of
time, and quite frankly it's just wishful thinking to
believe you actually gaining anything from it.

wrxman69, I say silence unto thee n00b!
Every little bit counts, right? What do you care what other Impreza owners do to their car? It's not like you're warning us out of the goodness of your heart, since there's nothing to warn us about and your tone of arrogance is misplaced on this board. Granted, the mod is a very minor one which probably just lowers the boost threshold a few hundred RPM's. What else do you expect from a free mod? 300hp at the wheels?! The way I see it, 30mins + $0 = slightly improved turbo response seems like a good deal to me. And RexORama was suggesting that you follow your own suggestion of ripping of the hood and air filter, not simply the silencer mod.
Oh, and don't knock small-displacement engines. Remember that many F-1 engines are naturally aspirated 3-Liter V12's that make over 1000hp.

I recommend getting an intake elbow from generationplastics.com to connect the air box back to the front scoop. It should help prevent the filter from getting too dirty too fast, and possibly draw slightly cooler air.

Yeah, I must be the only one who uses that button
You know what the big joke really is? I learn SO MUCH through hitting that appearantly hated button. The best part, is I usually learn more than just the quick answer to my question. God forbid we should encourage that, eh?

I guess I will make my comment. You said "all" the 04 noobs are coming out the woodwork, when in fact, only 1 person asked.
I am a proponent of the search function, and encourage the use of the search function, but I find no need for mockery.

Notice the whole, it's got 8 more cylinders thing, going on as well. So i guess, there really is no replacement for displacement even with 3 liters!

same displacement with more cylinders doesn't make more power. It makes more torque. compare an inline6 to a v6 of the same or very similar displacement and valve configuration.
Please dont try argue that horsepower and torque are the same thing
