Ummm, for most wrx applications you will not even notice the difference between a mandrel and crushed bent 3" exhaust.
If you are going to dive into the ~300+whp scene then the extra dough on mandrel piping will be worth it. Otherwise....save your money.

then what should my first mod be? i been searching for quite some time, and most people are saying exhaust, intake, THEN boost controller. BOV and turbo timers should be one of the last mods they say. what should my first mod be? i have a k&n filter. but thas about it. i have about 400 bucks to spend...or maybe a little more

i went to meineke and asked them is it better to get a custom exhaust or buy a aftermarket... he said... "i actually worked on a car like yours last week, it was an exhaust. i don't like turn away business, but you should go with the aftermarket. we can't make it as nice as the aftermarket exhausts.."

You can go this route and expect some gains. Personally, and I'm sure everyone is with me on this one, you should be shot for attempting such teenage rice shennanigains such as a DTM muffler. Get a dynomax ultra-flo off of www.jegs.com or www.summitracing.com for about 50-60. It is very deep and semi-quiet, awesome sound. I dont see anything wrong with using a muffler shop's 3" mandrel piping instead of Mr. MadTyteYoJDM11!1! I mean, pipe is pipe as far as the cat back goes. No sense being a snob. As far as the $400 goes, I'd get a downpipe (200) and an up pipe (175-200). Just have some brains for the install. **** the snobs that think more money always means more power

IS300 where in ct do u live
I have a MY02 rex. I only have a few mods. I am on a budget, after the house payment and car payment, and rest of the bills there isnt much left over at times. I did the silencer mod which is free, painted my calipers, k & n airfilter, and just installed a turbo xs axle back that i bought for $250. I plan on going witha turbo back and a up pipe eventually. I am piecing it together with quality brands but always looking for a bargain. Meaning if i can get one slightly used which the turbo xs was and save $150 bucks so be it. The turbo xs has a nice sound to it. A little quiet but i believe that it will get louder once i do the down pipe and up pipe. Correct me if i am wrong, because i hope it will get alil more louder. Have fun

why would i need to get a different piping? Cant i just have them weld on the muffler and when i want to get my stock muffler back, just weld that back on? I have called and asked monroe muffler and they said that they would

THE most important part of your WRX exhaust would be the piping from the rear diff all the way out the muffler.
Some mufflers, like most flowmasters, actually create better "sound" by backing up the air/pressure in the muffler. Thus creating a loud sound, which most people associate with more HP.
So, can you just weld on any muffler...NO. Can you just get away with most mufflers and most street applications...YES. You generally want a free flowing muffler not a muffler that just 'sounds' good.
Your best bet is to plan on what and where, performance wise, you want your car to be. When you get that picture...then work backwards and build your car. You will save yourself a lot of money and headache.

I have a MBC, Vishnu EMI, Pullies, K&N panel, stock gutted uppipe, and a Perrin cat down pipe. Some bought new some on ebay. Rest of exhaust is stock. I've spent $1000 and the car is much faster than stock and probably faster than something like a Vishnu stage 0 for the same price. Shop around and if you use a MBC you need an EMI or tuning to not kill your motor. EMI is 250. Probably giving up some power over a tune but had a power per dollar goal in mind and ECU tuning or piggyback would have broke the bank. I am going to try to have a nice flow master straight through welded to the stock axle back and see how that goes. I'll post my impressions. I'll try to do G-Tech before and after. Also test my friends stock WRX.
