Front and Rear section downpipes?
hey, Ive been looking into buying a dp for my car but a couple of times i came across front and rear section downpipes?. Wat is the difference between the two? why do some brands offer front and rear dp's and others dont? i was wonderin if anyone could help me out with this! appreciate any help!
the reason is as follows (to the best of my knowledge, any corrections if Im wrong are great):
your stock DP has 2 cats, some companies replace the entire length of your DP with one or no cats, others break up the DP into a section for each cat. Why, I dont know really, but Ive been thinking of doing a two section catless, and swapping in the second cat for smog every two years (easier swap).
Any other thoughts?
EDIT: Random..

Ive never heard that term before but I think you are talking about the 'shorty downpipes' that schreiber117 described above.
I would recommend just putting on a full turboback exhaust with a highflow cat (thats what I did on my old wrx and my current STi), I prefer doing the whole thing all at once, then keep the stock exhaust for smog time to swap. Exhaust choices vary from person to person, everyone has thier own preference. It really comes down to the goals you have for the car.

MonyG85, not sure if your still even checking this, but found an old diagram you may find useful

Most aftermarket Downpipes replace the Downpipe AND the midpipe section as labeled in this picture.
a two piece would replace one or the other.
Let me know if that helps
