Free Mods
I'm sure there is probably already a thread some where for this but everytime i search for it i cant find it so here goes. I have a 2005 wrx and have heard there are a bunch of free mods you can do to increase horse power or sound or spoll time. I know there is one with removing some stuff for your intake but have heard it make you lose a little power. I also have heard there is a hose coming from your turbo that you can replace with a 3/16 hose or something and your turbo will push like a pound or two more then stock? This is the one that I need help with which hose were is it located what does it connect to and where do i get the hose to replace it with? Any help or more free mods would be much appriciated. Thanks.

Yes there is lots of "free" mods and little stuff you can do. BUT, don't thing you'll shave 3 seconds off your 1/4 time by doing so.
Some stuff you can do that is fairly inexpensive;
Gut down pipe, Snorkus, replace factory boost solenoid, JDM tail lights, Samco IC hose, etc.
A great site to look on how to do so: http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/for...?s=&forumid=21
Pretty much all DIY tutorials. And then yes of course...the mighty search button!

The 3/16" mod was thought up before the days of EcuTek and Cobb AccessPORT reflashes. It sometimes improves driveability but has little effect on power. It 'felt' like my car liked it when I tried it back in late 2001 but my reflash came with a different restrictor that worked better so I dumped the 3/16" mod. You really don't want to increase boost very much over stock without proper tuning.
None of the free mods will show much power improvement. Factory Subaru engine management has a limited range in which it can automatically compensate for changes. It can cope with exhaust changes to some degree but proper tuning (or off-the-shelf maps) always result in additional power and driveability. Cold-air intakes are a mixed bag that I prefer to avoid unless going to a big turbo upgrade or a front-mount intercooler.

jeez, if i REALLY wanted cheap, i'd:
cut the caps off my injectors ($0)
gut all my cats ($0)
buy a tactrix cable so that i could reflash my oem ecu myself (~$100)
right there you're looking at a typical stage 2... ie, ~300chp, and you'd have plenty of fuel available for later upgrades.
picking up 70hp for 100 bucks is just plain silly cheap!
then again over the years i've learned what to do, and it doesn't sound like you're ready to start digging through your OEM ecu just yet.
