Wink Fram Air Hog

So I went to Pep boys to get some stuff for routine maintenence. Needed a new bulb, airfilter, etc. And I was thinking — while i'm here might as well pick up a K&N air filter so I don't have to keep buying those stock ones. I was looking and looking and couldn't find the one for the WRX. I then looked over and saw they had the new Fram Air Hogs. I first heard of these at an NHRA event I went to in Bristol. So I figured what the heck lets give it a shot. Suppossed to be good for 250 thousand miles. Looks pretty much like the K&N filter. Seems like it lets air through just fine. So I don't see why not get this one instead of the K&N since they are hard to come by in local stores.

No more than when I'm replacing a dirty filter element with a new one. I suspect this one will keep breathing like new for a long period of time. I put it in right after the install of an up and down pipe so I don't really have a good comparison considering the car is much quicker. I'm prettiy sure that has more to do with the up and down pipes.

I've been thinking about putting one of those in my car as well....when I first saw them I thought they looked alot like the K&N's.....so I figured I'd like to try one when I have to replace my filter....which wont be for awhile.

I remember it being about 5 to 10 bucks cheaper than the K&N depending on what type of filter you have. For a wrx i think its closer to ten. Its working like a charm so far!

I just put one in the other day as well. I can't say that I notice any difference, but the quality seems to be good. If I need to replace the filter at 250,000 miles.. then that's a good thing.

You are the first to say that most people say fram sucks. I'm sure their research is strong and knowledge of the field is grand. I would rather save a couple of bucks buying a product that has such little effect on the vehicle than base my purchase on a "Most people think...sucks" mentality that has no real validity. But then again thats just me, and I'm not most people.

i guess you don't read up on oil filters huh?? if a company makes one crappy i would expect that to carry over to others and for $10 i would not want to find out.
