Anyone using a Boost controller seeing random fluctuating boost? It seems I have a boost leak somewhere. Sometimes it is fine, then sometimes, I see the boost gauge go down and fluctuate. Plus, the boost gauge in vaccum fluctuates as well. I may have a clogged precat. Just trying to figure out what I need to do.

What really pissed me off was last time at the strip, I ran a 13.92 with dead 3rd gear (8 psi). That would have been a 13.6. ARGH!

 

What type boost controller are you using? Some are much better then others and holding boost pressure without flunctuations. Others... well, they aren't very accurate and can result in boost spiking.

If you suspect a boost leak, track down the possible sources of said leak under the hood and just have a look see. Sometimes you can see an obvious problem.

 

Check your vacum reading in idle and compare it to somebody's I haven't install my gauge yet but in other turbo cars that I had before it helps a lot. when you have a leak some times your vacum is not good (close to 0). check the conection of the line to the gauge the are plastic and the sleeve inside the fitting may be restricting the line a bit.

Deal w/ it, spiking happens. Also, you'll get full boost at partial throttle, and high EGT's.

 

Listen here lobster sukka... The question I asked was only to get some insight to see where to start. Its not spiking anyway. I've had an MBC for over a year now. The high EGT part throttle BS has been beat to death. The fact is that the pre-cat causes High EGT's. Not BC's. So leave your FUD in your head.

BTW, I'm pretty sure my BC spring or bleed off is just clogged. I need to clean that bad boy as I have no boost leaks.
