Exhaust manifold and Accessport

Hi guys

Just curious for those who know about the accessport. A stage II requires TBE. By next summer i plan to have TBE, an upipe, silicon hoses, and am also looking into an exhaust manifold from gruppe-s. my question is, would this still allow me to stay at a stage II? I realize for a stage III you need the vf34 and new injectors, but i would prefer a safe tune if i were to install the exhaust manifold. your thoughts?

I'd say yes.

Cobb indicates all your upgrades are within the tuning, except for the header which is most likely ok. You might want to call them just to make sure.

Here's Cobb's map notes:

2002-2003 AccessPORT Map
Info File Last Updated: 6/2/05

Map Name: Stage2 93 oct
Description: Stage 2 using 93 octane fuel. Requires stock turbo, stock
intake and turboback exhaust. 280HP / 285 ft-lbs.
Latest Rev: 1.30

For use with a stock turbo, stock injectors, stock intake and a TURBOBACK
exhaust system. Additional modifications such as uppipe and underdrive pulley
are still within the acceptable parameters of this mapping. MUST USE FACTORY
INTAKE.

dont get the headers and install em.

only mods that a AP will learn are ones that an ECU will... aka different TMIC, pulleys, and uppipe.

changing the headers wont yield gains with the AP and may even be a bad idea because headers decrease spool up, but add top end power so the preset cobb map would work but could carry with it some issues with changing that specific exhaust piece. :twocents:

Might be worth getting a ProTune once you start deviating from Cobb's 'stage' paths.

Thats not necessiarly true. Headers can be designed for any application, and there are some out there that help spool up, and some that help top end. It all depends on the design and what kind of heat shielding (coated or otherwise) is available.

If you try and run stg 2 without a TBE youre EGTs will skyrocket and you risk overheating your precat and sending it through the turbo. Ask on the cobb forums and see the reaction you'll get. For stg 2 you need TBE.

EDIT** Sorry didn't read thoroughly.

The ECU can compensate to small degree, thing such as turbo inlet, IC pipes, uppipe and such, but things like headers cross the line. Your best bet then is a protune. I advocate a protune regardless of what mods you have. Cobbs maps are a bit on the agressive side of things even the ca91 maps and getting a protune will smooth your car WAY out and match it to your mods and the local gas.

I ran this by Cobb before and they said you risk running lean with the header, but that was about one year ago. The new map may have cured that.
