Engine tech questions

Does anyone know if the WRX ecu w/ XEDE is compatible to USDM 2.5 block in a WRX?

Also, how much does a used stock WRX block sell for with about 10k miles driven.

Looks like someone is taking the "go big or go home" thing literally.

re: the factory ecu - It should be able to do whatever you tell it to with the Xede (or UTEC) hooked in to it. You're going to have to do all your tuning from scratch though.

The blocks sell for $5 and I'll take it. Nah!!! Not sure how much short blocks are going for...

The stock ECU will actually control a stroker motor just fine.

Thanks again Mitch,

I'm checking my budget right now. I need to get the XEDE sooner than I expected.

I'm still not sure if my EcuTek or my injectors may be the problem I'm experiencing at 6k rpm. My car bogs at 6k rpm and I get a flashing cel. I couldn't wait for the PE's (backordered for 2 weeks) so I purchased the STi injectors instead.

I remember a one of your posts concerning an FPR and I'm wondering if an adjustable FPR would solve the problem.

i don't think that's your prob. does it do it only under full throttle? or does it do it any time you try to go over 6k? or just accelerating 'slower'?

so does it do it at 6.5k? or can you not even get there?

like I said in the 'for sale' thread that we hijacked, .... give me a call if you want, maybe I can help troubleshoot.

When I start to bog at 6k, I just let off the gas and slow down until the CEL stops blinking and goes away.

which injectors do you have? If they're the 650's or 800's, don't they have some tuning issues? I remember reading about it. However, I don't remember anything about a blinking CEL, but I may have forgotten.

Perhaps there is a code stored in memory? Get your car scanned to see if there is a code stored then you can go and pick the tuners brain(he who did your reflash)

If and when you ever do get the PE injectors... I think you are either going to cry, or going to have to have the car professionally tuned. From what I'm reading on the PE's and the two stage operation... It's not fun to tune.

As for the Xede curing your 6k+ RPM operation... I dont personally like that idea. Your more or less bandaiding the issue. Either get the reflash corrected then use the Xede for small offsets. Or get rid of your reflash and tune almost excusively with the Xede(much harder obviously)
