Downpipe question

Im looking to put a Cobb downpipe on my 04' wrx. The stock up pipe has been gutted and There is a Borla hush exhaust on the car right now. My mechanic said he'll pass me for emissions even if i use a Catless downpipe. My problem is he might not always be around and i might have to put the stock one back on at some point. So my question is, Is the High-flow cat close to the uncatted version as far as performance goes? Also would i have any problems driving the car to my tuner with the new downpipe installed (hes about 2hours away)? Thanks.

I'm guessing you're not tuned, just just an all together bad idea for an 04-05 model. Engine management should have been the first thing on your list to get rid of that OL-CL problem. Modding the exhaust may amplify that problem. Your engine is your friend, don't screw your friend over by short changing him on upgraded engine management.

As for smog, check out your local forums and see what passes and what doesn't. It varies from state to state. Worst case: Put that stock parts back on.

I guess i wasnt totally clear because, Engine management is my first thing as im getting either a stock ECU relfash or an Accessport along with the downpipe. Besides the borla hush im stock. I know i wont pass the smog test but my mechanic is cool like that and said he'd pass me regardless. My main problem is basically can i drive the car 2 hours with the downpipe installed or will that damage the car?

With that added to the story..... you're fine.

If you spend most of the two hours without punching the throttle, you'll be fine.
