Disco potato (garret gt28rs) - anybody using one yet?

From what I've read and seen in compressor maps, this turbo sounds really nice. Has anyone bolted one on yet?

There's a guy on Nasioc who's been trying to sell his (and a shopping list of other stuff including a FMIC for $1800 since September! The only thing is, he's calling it a GT28 and I don't think they came vanilla like that. Garrett only lists the GT28R and the GT28RS (unless it's an older, no longer manufactured model), so you'd probably have to ask him which one it is.

I can't access Nasioc from work so I can't post the link.

I saw the specs in the Garrett catalog and the 28RS (the larger one) didn't seem like it offered much greater power than some IHI's. Is that a fair comparison?

In speaking with mpjmoike, it seems that the gt28rs won't directly bolt up to a wrx, so unless he's also selling the plumbing to go along with it, I doubt he's got a potato.

I left a little bit of info out. It's a T3-T28.

The guy's name is Homemade WRX in this thread:

It's on page 5 for me, now.

The GT28RS will make the current IHI bolt on efforts look like a hair dryer.

This is a slightly smaller brother of the now infamous GT30R, we use a GT30R on our turbo kit which hits full boost at 4k. The GT28RS with decent tuning should do the same at about 3500rpms. As far as spec's go the GT28RS operating in it's peak efficeincy should be around 360-380whp on a WRX but this would be on decent gas. On 91 pump gas I would not expect the GT28RS to put out much more power than a PE series turbo but it will spool up faster.

To operate this turbo you will need a modified up and downpipe and an external Wastegate (they may sell a internal one but I would not recommend it) You will also need to adapt the oil and coolant lines slightly.

Great turbo for a WRX, wish it was available when we put out kit on the test mule!

Late spring is what I heard from Garrett but you never know...

All of the motors that I matched to this turbo have turned out SICK. Mostly RWD and FWD apps are what I have slapped this on to but I would want to see what this would act like on and AWD 2.0 WRX...

RPM of boost onset=INSANE
time of full boost=INSANE
midrange power=INSANE
smile on my face by 7-8k RPM=Priceless

now if I could get one onto a WRX, I'd prolly chit my pantalones

As far as I know they are already out, at least the 2 I saw going into 1.8t VW's before Christmas looked fairly out to me anyway.

If anyone would like pricing on a kit that will make these bolt right up please email us at sales@mpjperformance.com as we have a setup that will make this work.

Yeah I read a 1/4 page article on them ...they're out! Like someone said they're great for 1.8-2.0 L motors but SCC says that they're good for about 300 hp?

I think they are good for more than 300hp, because otherwise they would just be an alternative to the VF34, and from what I've heard they are "all that and a bag of potato chips"

I would say the SCC add is a little concervative seeing as this chart was a GT28rs on a 1.8t with no tuning just slapped on.

I think it will be a much better option that the HKS kit.
