CEL Fix For Up-pipes???
I was wondering if I need a CEL Fix once I install the Up-pipe in my 03 WRX? I understand we need it on the downpipes but I've never heard of CEL Fix's on Up-pipes.
Some people tell me to install one some people don't. I just wanna make sure that my car doesn't start throwing CELs left and right.

The factory uppipe contains the EGT probe. When a catless uppipe is installed the probe is either reinstalled into the new pipe (if it has the hole), or removed and disconnected. The probes tend to fail after a while in the catless pipes, probably due to the increased exhaust flow without the catalytic converter. When the probe has been removed or fails, a CEL will result- usually P0546.
To prevent or correct an EGT-probe related CEL, the probe should be unplugged from the electrical connector next to the boost solenoid (if it hasn't been already), and a 2.2K ohm resistor inserted in the female side of the connector that is attached to the harness. This will "fool" the ECU into seeing a valid signal from the probe and eliminate the CEL.
The OEM EGT probe is no longer needed with a catless uppipe because its purpose is to monitor the temperature of the uppipe catalyst.

I always got confused as to what i needed to buy. So to clear up any future confusions, i found this link

that is what you need. Just unplug the sensor from the engine, and stick 1 of the resistors in. Then you're good to go.

no problem! btw i dont know which one i have in my car...but it has been fine for the 15k miles since it went on the car.
Plug the hole with a bolt. If the probe is reinstalled in the catless pipe, there is a small but significant chance that it may eventually break apart which would of course be bad. The probe is not intended to be exposed to the full exhaust stream, in the stock pipe it is located inside the catalyst.
What about 04?
I'm going to install a new uppipe (PDE FLEX) on my 04 WRX. And I plan on putting the EGT probe back into the bung on the uppipe. Now I've searched a lot and most of the "Fixing CEL's" usually involved someone installing a DP, which I don't plan on doing... for now... But my question is, some people say that the 04 sensors are different than the 03 and 02. I think the 04 needs 1Mohm resistors in order for it to get rid of the CEL. Is this also true for the uppipe CEL fix for the 04? Becuase I don't want to see that damn light in my car. Also, others say that it won't come on, but knowing my luck, the CEL will shine nice and bright as soon as everything is done. Is there anything else that I should be aware of when I install the new uppipe? A quick response would be great 'cuase I should be expecting it in the mail tomorrow. Thanks!

btw, I just installed the helix uppipe and Stromung TBE today but was difficult especially if I didnt have access to a lift and all the tools I needed(work for firestone). Took me just about all day(no directions) but worked out great.

will a CEL for running lean (p0171) show up as one of a possible problems?
I think my Impreza is running fine but I get this code on occasion after clearing it.
Would a faulty 02 senor be a result of too much air flow result in having the car running lean but not really?!?
