Catastrophic Failure

Not sure if this has happened to anyone out there. Need any info I can get. 2002 WRX with 120k miles. Synthetic oil since new. Only mods are exhaust and intake. Daily driven commuter car. Timing belt changed last summer with appx 95k miles. This past wed car quit on me after making loud clanging noise. Just found out today my timing belt is fine....camshaft snapped on one of the banks. Need either a new engine or rebuild this one, mechanic has not cracked the heads yet. Anyone think I'll get any help from Subaru?

I just had to replace my engine in my 2003 wrx. My heads ended up being cracked so I had to replace those as well. To make a long story short, SOA has a "one time good will" that they *can* extend to you *if* they feel the problem was some sort of defect, and not something you did to the car. Supposedly they can extend it to 80k miles, so I'm not sure if your car will be covered, but its worth a shot. Just take the car to a dealership and ask them about it.

120k miles and 6 years old? I don't think Subaru is going to help you on this one.

Good luck with the whole situation though!

I snapped a cam in a 1986 Nissan 300zx back in the day. The reason was the timing was off, from what they said. Overall, unless Subaru worked on it, they will probably say, the 2008 STi has a great warranty, try one of those.

No pics yet. Getting an engine from an wrecked '02 with 18K miles for $3K. Ouch. Timing belt remained intact. The left bank cam snapped sending valves and rods a flying. Havent sent a e-mail to Subaru yet but wish me luck. Oh well, there goes shopping for a new STI next year.

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate event.
Sounds very catastrophic to me since I never heard of that
ever happening to a Subaru before that's definitely a new one.
Post pictures of the mess if you can.
You would be better off getting an 08 Subaru STi instead
because it covers alot of parts.Subaru has the best warranty
as far as coving parts on a warranty is concerned.

Oh wow, I hope that quote isn't just for the motor. A brand new short block EJ25 only runs for 1700.
