CAI for WRX

Hi

I am looking for a CAI for my 2k2 WRX , and I found a website selling BOMZ Cold Air Intake for $109.99 with free shipping.

Everyone agrees intakes don't do much but if you want to get one get a short ram. I made my AEM into a short ram and it works great that way.
Don't get a CIA with a the airfilter behind the fog lights setup.
Your airfilter will get wet and very dirty everytime it rains. Mine sure did. Its a terrible location for a WRX.

Yeah don't waste your money with a CAI, get either a short ram i.e. greddy, blitz, or apex'i, or just by an K&N pamel filter for $40 bucks.

You have a CAI already, you just dont know. Do the silencer hack, bang, boom, instant CAI.

One thing you may want to consider is getting an Amsoil Panel Filter, they filter better, but allow more air flow. Alot of times the K&N drip crap on your MAF sensor and cause a CEL. Also the K&N lets alot of dirt in like dust and road salt if that gets into your filter. I had a Amsoil Drop in in my Tacoma that i took through the mud and other various crappy conditions. I loved it. Also provided a little bit of a increase in power. I currently am running a fully stock rexy 2002.

What about all the No name brands of CAI on ebay? Some are going for $40.00. Are they not worth it? For 40.00 what have you lost? Just wondering. And doesn't the short intake pull hot air in?

the cai is not very useful. its good for sound, and looks. the stock intake we have is pretty much a cai already, and plus a CAI is pretty much useless for a turbo.

I'm glad I waited. I was looking at the AEM CAI because it is CARB exempt, but I've decided I am going to leave it stock. Here's a message thread in the Engine Management forum that you might be interested in. Shiv Pathak (Vishnu Performance) has some things to say about the much-vaunted CAI:

You must be joking! On a turbo that heats up air? Cold air intake is worthless? You need to learn a little more about turbo engines before you give out advices like that. Granted CIA may not give you more power, but unless you are running a front mount intercooler, it's very worth it just for the sake of safety. It has been proven on more then one occation.

I have no CARB sticker for mine. I'm considering replacing it with a K&N short ram because it is CARB approved and I regret putting the filter somewhere that is a pain to access and inspect.

It's only CARB "pending" at this point I believe. I called AEM about this months ago, they claim the paperwork is in the system waiting for approval.
