CAI Madness! Help! To do, or not to do?
I already posted this on clubwrx.net but I'm sort of in a pickle and I'd really love some feedback.
I bought my 02 WRX used, and the previous owner, much to my dismay, put an Injen CAi on it, although I am running Cobb Stage 1 to prevent horrendous consequences such as detonation, I know very well that Cobb packages work very poorly with CAIs. With some crap luck, the previous owner chucked the stock intake and I am on a serious budget. I have a nice hack saw sitting in the garage and I was considering sawing my CAI into a short ram. I've gotten feedback from people who have done it, but wondering what you guys think is the best alternative? To saw it, or not to saw it? I'm almost sure a SRI will work more efficiently than a CAI with Cobb Stage 1. Though I could be wrong.
Thanks!

actually cobb has a map specially made to wrk with the injen cai. its also a stage 2 map.
dont know much about how a short ram would work better with stage 1.
i'd recommend just going to stage 2 and using that injen cai map....
at the momment i have stage 2 with uppipe and perrin short ram. seen no problems.

Don't bother with the hacksaw!
If you are having a problem ( that is now traced to your intake) cutting it in half won't help. The problem is more likely from the way the MAF is bolted to the intake. The orientation of that mounting flange is extremely critical for proper MAF readings. You would need to properly remount that flange. This is not going to be possible in your home garage wher you would need a fixture to hold the part properly.
Our suggestion is to use a junk yard for now and then purchase a PERRIN™ Performance Short Ram when your budget allows. This wiil fix the problem (Again only if the intake is truly to blame!)
