Unhappy Boost not going past 9psi

Installed new Autometer Boost Gauge and gauge only goes up to 9PSI. It never passes that mark. I did a little research and someone mentioned that the stock boost is aroudn 13PSI is that correct? I check the guage for kinks but everything looks fine. Where could my problem be??

Thanks in advance for your responses

are you looking at the boost in 1st and 2nd gear?

Boost is limited to 9 psi in 1st and 2nd.

I've taken every gear to 6K or so RPM's and NONE of the gears can go past 9PSI...wtf could it be. Are there any lines I can check? I'm not familiar with turbos or engines in general, so if you do have some input can you describe at as detailed as possible..

yea, check your lines on your autometer boost gauge.

the line gets pinched really easily since its so thin.

I had the same problem when I put in my Greddy gauge. Fixed it by replacing the 1/8" vacum T(that came with the gauge) with a 1/4" T and it went away.

many boost gauges also use (and come with) a pill in the line going to the gage (its a thingthat turns the boost line into a pin-hole, a tiny, in-line, brass fitting). this regulates flow to the gauge allows it to read pressure more accurately. make sure your instructions do not specify this part if you haven't used it yet.

Where did you install the vacuum line from? The BOV? The intake manifold?

I had the same problem

i have a Autometer Boost Gauge and after a while it started only hitting 9 psi. It used to hit about 14 psi. called autometer and they said that the gaue is busted. but mine did one more thing when i turned my car of it would zero out at about negative 5 psi. so i would check if it dose that and if it does it might be busted.

I installed the line from the BOV

I thought it might be the guage but when i turn the car off it goes goes to zero, so it's not the gauge.

It's been raining like mad here in the bay area so I'll try to take a look at the line this weekend.

you attached the line in the wrong spot I will bet. Find the fuel pressure regulator line on the pass. side of the motor and T into the line there. It should give you the readings you are looking for.

I did the same thing you did, and I changed the location and it has read perfect ever since.

Does the car feel slower? There's a big difference between 9 psi and 14 psi in terms of power to the wheels. If you think you're actually not making boost, verify your vacuum lines are correct. If it feels normal, than one of the fixes posted above for your gauge should work.

If your near the East Bay (Hayward) swing by the shop (Gruppe-S) I would be happy to jump in the car and do a log round the block and see what's going on for you.
