boost controllers

i was thinking about adding a manual boost controller set @ 16lbs of boost. now my question to all of you is, is setting the boost to a consistant 16lbs safe? what is the highest amount of boost that the factory fuel system can handle? also, anyone who has done this give me some feedback.

Much mahalos...

The factory fuel system can handle 16 lbs of boost using the factory TD04 turbo but using a manual boost controller creates the potential for a whole new problem called the part-throttle, full boost condition.

Back up one page level to the Impreza EJ20T Powerplant forum page that lists the recent threads. There's a link somewhere below the page banners that says 'Search this Forum' and you can use keyword 'ptfb' to search for existing threads on the subject.

manual boost controller is fine, best to get either a custom reflash or utec (in my experience) to address the partial throttle issues on the load sites of your ecu that will cause the partial throttle egt issues.

before you raise the boost, be sure to swap out your stock uppipe, high egts may ruin the cat or stock egt probe and cause the turbo to eat stuff and fail.

make sure you have some gauges so you can properly monitor boost and egt or afr. You don't want to be running too lean under any circumstances.

cool. i actually have just installed my helix up-pipe and downpipe and my blitz dcII boost gauge. I'm still waiting on my egt as it is still on back order. another question though, would i run into the same problems using a electronic boost controller? holla.........

What year car izat???
If an '04 or '05....no use any boost controller...the change from closed loop to open loop takes too long and you can get a serious meltdown at 16psi and 14.7 AFR in the 2 or so seconds that it takes to change....bad juju.

Beware

^^ I second that.
MBCs suck. I wouldn't even use an ebc without EM. If I'm not mistaken when you get a reflash the tuner can tweak you're boost too since it's controlled by the ecu. But I could be wrong.
