boost controller questions

i got a lightly modded 02 wrx and am thinking about installing a ebc. what i was wondering is how it affects the air/ fuel mixture at partial throttle. i think i heard somewhere that putting one on leans it out unless your at WOT. is this true? i tried searching the forums for an answer but couldnt find it. also what do you guys think, hks, blitz, greddy?

it can cause you to run lean. the ecu has a closed loop fuel mode and an open loop mode. while in closed loop it will run around 14.7:1 afr. at open loop it will run closer to 10:1 afr. by running an ebc, you can and probably will make more boost than is safe while in the closed loop fuel mode. for the price of an MBC + install, you are very close to the price of an EcuTek reflash or a Cobb Accessport. both of those are much more comprehensive than an ebc.

if you are set on running an ebc, check out the device detailed in this thread: https://www.i-club.com/forums/bay-area-15/introducing-ed-vaus-here-i-club-he-can-help-those-you-mbcs-75849/
basically it will send your ecu into open loop fuel when your boost gets high enough to warrant it.

if your not going Utec or reflash then go with the Apexi AVC-R ebc. One of the best ebc's on the market.
