Question Boost controller

Hi,

First time on the board and have a question about the wrx.
I have a stock 02 wrx with column boost gauge. If i bought an electronic boost controller, installed it, and turned the boost to 15 psi, would the ecu respond and add more fuel, or is a remap neccesary? I would like to normally run stock boost ( which seems to be around 13.9 psi) but have the ability to run high boost for short amounts of time. Do you guys know if this is possible in the wrx?

Thanks,
ben

You do not have to touch the factory computer for 15-16psi on the stock turbo. The WRX runs pig rich to being with.

Although I think your better off without a boost controller and getting a Cobb Reflash as it's the same price $395 + shipping.

Yeah, I looked at cobb's reflash but I would like a mod that could be removed/disabled to increase the life of the car and not void my warranty.

improper air/fuel/ignition management + more boost doesnt exactly increase the life of the car. you're definitely headed the wrong way for reliability. sure it wont kill the car, but its not the safest thing to just add a boost controller.

A reflash is probably the safest upgrade you can do. Both Cobb and ECUtek are great. You can get the Cobb for the price of a good EBC.

just adding a boost controler set at 15-15.5 psi will be just fine, no ecu needed. don't let people make you think your going to hurt your car because you will not. just DO NOT go over 16 psi. i ran mine this way for a long time i had all the gauges you could get and noticed no change in engine fuction just more power. but would advise you get a EGT with that boost controler just to be safe. if you have more questions go ahead and ask.
