Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

APS intercooler, where to route A/C lines?

I'm considering adding an APS intercooler to my 02 WRX, but I'm curious to know how any of you dealt with the A/C line problem. Right now I have a Whiteline strut bar, and that already forced me to shift the A/C line bracket on the right-hand side of the engine bay significantly; I've also read threads from people with the TurboXS and JDM STI intercoolers on the eJ20 who also complained about rubbing, chafing or bending the A/C line. How should I route or adjust it? Can you get a longer or more flexible A/C line? I'd really like to route it so that it is further away from the damn turbo, as I'm certain that is wasting lots of my A/C compression by heating the line just before it enters the firewall -- way to go Subaru engineers!

Anyway, if you have the APS intercooler installed, post a pic of your bay so I can see how the A/C line can be made to fit...

Awesome. Better than I thought, but it looks like I might have to lose my strut bar. Damn, I love that Whiteline bar, and it made a very real difference in the handling... I don't see any way to get it to fit in there, however.

Are you using the stock turbo, or another? Did you notice any increase in spool-up times, before vs. after?

No I'm using a vf22. Spool up is a bit slower than the stock turbo and intercooler, but my driving style has changed and imho this is a way better turbo than the stock td04. Daily driving with the vf22 is not bad at all like most people make it out to be.
