It gets reflashed once when you set your "base map", then you can switch between your "real time maps" as much as you want without wearing out the ECU health. You will only need to reflash if you need to change your base map or you want to uninstall the AccessPORT.

At least, that's how I understand it.

i agree with 04blkwrx
from what i read about it won't use up the reflash memory since it only technically reflashes once. your ecu can reflash approximatley 100 times

what happens if one tries to reflash 101 times? It just won't relfash and you are stuck with what ever map was flashed in the 100th time?

Well with the accessport, it doesn't matter. The software allows it to flash an infinite amount of times, so there's not that problem. I'm not sure somebody would reflash an ECU the conventional way 100 times. That's a lot of flashes.

Oh I was under the impression that when one runs a base map that it actually re-flashes the ECU, and then one can use as many real-time maps as one wants without having to reflash the ECU. I planning on getting the Access Port tuner model when it comes out. I like the thought of having the anti-theft as my base map.

wrxneffect: yes you're right. You only reflash it once. The real time maps are not actually reflashes. And I was thinking along your lines with making the anti-theft my base map in case a thief disconnected my battery.

As far as 101 reflashes, the 100 is a statistical estimate, subaru engineers are almost positive you will get AT LEAST 100 reflashes. You could get as much as 1000 reflashes for all they know. But the answer to reflashing too much is that the memory wears out and your car won't work.

IMO, I personally wouldn't feel comfortable making anti-theft as my base map. I could be wrong, but it's my understanding that you're required to use the AccessPort to change base maps.

My concern would be if you don't have the AccessPort unit physically with you and you lose battery power, you're stuck. Or you could bring your car to the dealer, they could disconnect the battery and the car wouldn't start. Sure, you could change the base map before going to the dealer , but from what I understand, changing the base map requires another reflash.

Good point, but I think I may find a nice place to store my accesport in the car, plus I'm not too concered with dealer problems since I will shortly be out of the warranty period and I will not be taking my car to any dealer to get work done once the warranty is over.
