180k on original turbo
Hi i just got a 2005 wrx with 180k, its from the original owner, and all freeway miles. Im looking for some advice and input please. any would be greatly appreciated!! thanks in advance.
question: has anyone had a turbo last this long, because it seems to boost fine and holds 10psi, also do you think i should just replace a newer turbo with less mileage before i start modding the car just in case it fails soon. and where would i find a good used turbo for a decent price. Thanks

I don't know about the 2005 WRX but my 02 WRX hit ~14psi when bone stock.
That's a pretty worn turbo, and a pretty worn engine. If you start modding it and driving it hard it will probably fail on you. Since you're already at 180k I would guess that it will fail before you hit 200k.
So can you afford to replace the engine, turbo, and maybe many other broken/worn components in the next year? If not... I wouldn't mod the car.
However, if yes, then I would have a subaru shop inspect the car from top to bottom (which should cost you about $100), and fix/replace anything that might need it first. And then start modding it. Maybe focus on suspension mods rather than power mods, just in case?

thanks, im going to get a compression test and a leak down test this week and i was going to make my decision of modding the car from the results, the car seems to be in great driving and body condition, and the org. owner just drove to work all the time all freeway, he had the clutch done 60k ago and timing belt water pump and all flushes done at 4k ago. I am not looking into spending a lot of money replacing the engine or anything =) Also i have hit 14 psi stock as well on higher rpms and higher gears is that normal? it seems to only stay at 10 psi on lower gears like 1 and 2

i also hit 14 psi on my stock 2004 wrx turbo, I would NOT do anything to the car till you get a leak down and a compreshion test on that engine. If it comes out ok keep it a a stage 2 at most and have about 5k saved for a new engine all the time.

Did he ever tell you who did the timing belt/water pump?
I asked him, but he never told me.
I was honestly thinking about buying the car for my wife
But I would have gotten a prepurchase inspection and compression test before hand.
Did he give u the iclub price or CL price?
just curious, you dont have to answer if you dont want to
