Who's using the California Map for Cobb AP's?

I just got a Cobb AP and i was wondering how many of you guys were using the stock/standard Stage 1 or 2 maps, and how many of you uploaded the California 91 octange Stage 1 and 2 maps. Does it really make a difference? am I gonna blow my engine out or run lean or rich if i use the stock maps? Thanks for the advice!

I'm running the CAL Stage 1 map as my base map. It works fine for me. I have seen the target 14.7 psi using the AP boost guage. Car is much stronger running than it was with the stock engine management.

Hey,

I'm currently running the standard stage1 91 map from cobb. I also just got my AP too, been on it for a couple of days so far so good. From what I found out from the forums in cobbtuning.com, you only need to run the cali maps if you are not reaching target boosts. Just do a little search over there and you will find tons of info on cali vs regular maps

I'll check those forums out. From what little i've been able to find, it seems like using a cali map is a good idea. I'm running a stage 2, so it might make even more of a difference.

Incorrect, the Cali map was made for Cali gas because of the lower quality.

Some customers were seeing detonation so Cobb decided it would be in thier best interest to make a "custom" ots Cali map.

Check the map notes and you will see nothing about target boost being changed with the Cali maps.

Any map can cause a lean issue, it depends on the car and the setup.

I'll bet you have a CAI, dont you.

Sorry bout the double post. I need a count anyway.

Exclamation Trying To Remember Why Cali Gas Is Different

From my days working at a gas station in Ohio, I remember reading and hearing about the difference in Cali gas. If memory serves me right, it has to do with the amount of ethanol that Cali requires in the states gasoline. Been trying to find information about it online, and all I could find was that Cali runs at least 6% ethanol at the pump. It was at one point a selling angle at the Shell gas station that I worked at that the gas we supplied contained no ethanol. I think that when shell brought out their new line of gasoline, that their gas now has ethanol in it. Notoriously in Columbus, Oh their were several stations with problems with their gas. BP for one has high levels of ethanol and it messed with peoples cars bad! I had friends that worked for BP and got free gas from them, and never got their gas because of the problems they had when using it. Also, Super America had problems at some locations with their gas freezing in their underground tanks. That problem leads one to beleive they have a high level of water in their gas, because of the extreme levels of cold needed to freeze pure gasoline and how easily water freezes. I try to make good decisions at the pump even when it costs me a couple cents a gallon. And I forgot about the emission laws you guys have their. Here I've known guys to get away with being catless. We only get our emissions checked when we are under the suspiscion of breaking emission laws. They have talked about making mandatory yearly inspections but have yet to do it.
