what's the right engine management for me?

I have an 03 wrx sedan with 57,000 miles on it. Engine mods include a top fuel CBE, Helix dp and up, and aem SRI. My a/f gauge is ALWAYS on rich. What will make my a/f ratio optimal? I know gauges aren't 100% accurate but my car also backfires occasionally between shifts. I will be changing my spark plugs tomorrow but I was wondering what, if any would be the best engine management for me? There's no tuning shop nearby so is there a pretuned ecu for this? I plan on keeping this setup for a while. Any input is appreciated.

Cheap option (DIY): Tactrix cable ($90), laptop+EcuFlash software (free) and an XPT Stage 2 off-the-shelf map ($50)
Other option: Cobb AP2 with OTS map ($700)
Preferred: Cobb AP2 with pro tune ($950)

I'm currently running the cheap option and it works great as long as you are competent with computers and following directions. The online support is pretty damn good. Might go to an AP later.

How do you go about this DIY route? Thanks for the help so far, guys. Btw, does Cobb require a core exchange, or do you just reflash your own?

Tactrix FTW! I'm also on an XPT Stage 2. It's extremely easy (though maybe a little nerve-racking the first time).

Read through everything and you'll be good to go

i can vouch that a/f gauge being wrong. unless it's a true wideband, it's pretty much useless. Tactrix cables are real good. AP has its advantages, but some tuners don't like using them. but for your set up, the AP would be good as well. so pick your poison.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'll have to do some pricing and research. I think my first step will be to hook up a wideband though.
