I would say stage Subzero reflash from Vishnu and then work on an exhaust later.

I have seen in some situations in some altitudes where the cobb does not perform as well becuase they are at about 4,500 ft elevation, whereas vishnu is at sea level, but if you live up where the air is rare then a reflash from cobb would do it.

Research a lot of exhausts before you jump into them, I have gone through 2 and am finally happy with mine.

don't get the accessport.

i'd suggest a turboback exhaust or a ECU reflash from gruppe-s

I went with the accesport, which I definitely reccomend.

If you feel like wrenching, the Helix up/dp combo from gruppe-s might be the way to go.

I don't know how their tunes compare but Vishnu (Shiv) has held at least one tuning session in the Denver area, as well as other places in the continental U.S. to take into account local weather conditions and available pump gas. You can always give Cobb a call to see if they have maps tuned to your particular location (or altitude) and available gas.

AccessPort is nice to be able to reflash different maps for future mods. EcuTek vendors will usually charge a fee unless complete staged kits are purchased from them (i.e. exhaust, turbo, etc.). Of course, if you live near a good tuner it's hard to beat a good custom dyno tune.

Why do you recommend against the accessport? It sounds like an awesome setup (to be able to set valet mode, back to stock, etc. on a whim). It costs the same as a reflash from vishnu, but gives a lot more options.

I just got back from CT over the Thanksgiving weekend and got to drive my buddy's 2003 Evo w/ a reflashed ECU and an after market turbo back exhaust. And now that I'm back in CA driving my stock 2004 WRX, I realize the significant difference in power delivery and rush that my friend's Evo delivers.

Anyway, because of this I'm starting to consider either Vishnu's Stage Sub-Zero or Stage Zero. The Sub-Zero basically consists of only a remapped ECU, while the Stage Zero adds a Main Power Pulley and 321 Up-Pipe kit. So the reason for my post is to ask if any of you out there has had any experience w/ either of these two stages. Basically I want a reasonable gain in power and torque without unreasonably compromising reliability. I know that any time you do these things there's always a risk on the reliability to some degree, but wanted to know if it's still a fairly safe gamble. Any input would be truly appreciated.

Thanks!

JB

Question

i hate to intrude on someone elses thread, but what will hold the same for me? i have a 94 Impreza L 2wd and i want to extract the most power from this letjargic block before i even consider a swap. what should i do? i already have a hyper ground system, and a custom 2.5" Blitz ehaust system. should i get a fuel computer along the lines of a Apex'i Super AFR/ larger injectors/port and polish, or should i do cams along with a GReddy E-manage? would pulleys work? should i get a borla header before all of this, or after? after all the airflow, should i step up to 3" piping?
