You shouldn't be flooring it on 5th, as 5th would really throw u off.

Most of the time (racing) is done in 3rd or 4th. Thus 5th is just a cruising gear. So if ur seeing knock in 5th, that is expected.

For the 2k-3k knocking, I'm guessing ur knocking in the low load site, u might wanna log and check what fuel and timing ur hitting at that area. Or maybe there is too much boost at that area.

Show some logs for us then we can diagnose ur situation. I had this issue b4, and I basicaly added some fuel to those areas...

I don't mean to bring up an old post from the dead/sound like a dick.. but seriously why are you running a stock turbo at 17 psi.. wouldn't it begin to lose its 'umph' around there?

At least mine did..hence the vf22.

Regards,
Gered

I have set my stock turbo to peak at 17.5 psi in 3rd gear before. You're right, it's inefficient up there, but it'll give you 17.5 psi for a short time. Actually, I've only seen the turbo hold that much boost for about 200 rpms, if that. Tuning like that will also allow you to hit a higher peak boost in 4th and 5th gears, but it won't hold and the hotter air from the inneficient turbo along with the increased load on the motor will be more likely to cause knock.

IMHO, I'd recommend keeping it around 16-16.5 peak, which will come down to 12-13 psi by red line on it's own.

As for the knock situation....post up a log and the map that you're running. What EM are you using? It could be a number of things, but I found when I smoothed out the timing values I lost those "phantom" knocks that would occur every other run down the track.

Please post a log from the UTEC and the map you're running, then we can take a look and see where it's knocking and why.

i don't know how you tune your utec, but for me, knock is never expected nor will i put up with any of it.

tip: you see your cel flash, bust out the laptop, start the logging, make it happen again, find out why, and fix the problem.
