Turbo XS Utec & ECU-tek

Hello WRX'ers....

I was wondering if you guys can post an answer for me on which Engine Management set up would be best for my car, Utec or ECU-tek?

My plan is to buy the 2.8L stroked motor kit & the Racing Stage 4 Head package(heavy porting & polishing). As for the rest of the engine set up, I'm have the APS SR-65 Turbine, APS 3.5" Exhaust System, APS DR-Series FMIC, APS Air Intake System, UNorthodox Racing Pulley Set, & GT-Spec V3 Equal Length Header System...

My car's going to be mildy street driven but will be hard driven on the circuit track in Connecticut once Im done.

Thanks,
Marky

well, UTEC is more appropriate for someone who likes to tinker with their own car a lot. ECUTEK is more of a set it-forget it kind of thing.

I have the ecutek reflash, and love it. my car is a moderatly modded daily driver.

in all honesty, it sounds like you're building more of a race car than a street car, have you considered a stand alone like a Link, AEM, Nemesis, or Haltech?

Stand Alone...

Yes I am building a semi-race car with street driven capabilities/legality(is "legality" even a word...hehehe). I thought that the Utec's & ECutek's are standalone systems?

Who else makes standalone ecu systems for 03 WRX's??? Also, if I have an aftermarket standalone fuel system, will I need an additional boost controller(HKS EVC5 Boost Controller) & air/fuel mixture controller(HKS S-AFR's)?

Thanks,
MArky

If you are serious, get a custom motec setup. Crawford performance builds them.

UTEC is not a standalone. it operates along with the stock ECU and allows you to tune the car through it's software via a laptop.

ECUTEK is not a standalone. it overwrites the ECU's program with one tuned for your car. it is somewhat adjustable via a laptop using DeltaDash, but it's user tuning capabilities are somewhat general and restricted.

some stand alone systems are Motec, Haltech, LINK, AEM EMS, Hydra Nemesis.

with the level of mods you're thinking of, why are you worried about your engine management making it illegal? every other mod you listed already takes care of that for you
