Exclamation Should we use boost controlers?

I was wondering if boost controlers were applicable for gasoline engines. I dont know much about them but my friends told me that they were a waste of money because they can cause your car to run to lean because you are forcing to much air in the engine and not compensating with fuel. I was wondering if this was true or if they were blowing me a bunch of crap. I know you guys out there have them so I was wondering if you guys could help me out. Also I was wondering what the best boost controler was or what everyone uses. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

Without a boost controller what would one use to control boost?

Is there a site or a post on here that basically tells boost controllers functions in detail. I mean I know they are to control boost but to what extent and practicality do they serve. I just want some detailed info that says what boost controllers do and how they do it and effects that they have on our cars. If someone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
