don't waste your time with the Dp you won't get very accurate readings there anyway. The drivers side manifold isn't that bad to take off. -James

the upipe is also not the best place to put it, you will lose some accuracy and it won't react fast enough to let you know you have a problem. You best bet would be to do the drivers side manifold, it's not that hard. I did mine on the passneger side but I had it out to install my uppipe anyway. If you're not comforatble drilling and tapping it yourself take it to a machine shop nad have them do it for you, I don't think it would be more than 30-40 bucks. If you plan on doing it in the downpipe, I would just save your money and spend it elsewhere, it's not going to be of much help that far away from the head. Good Luck-James

DON'T put that in the downpipe. Because you'll also be reading all the excess heat from the turbo, your readings will be WAY off.

I have mine mounted in the uppipe and I know it reads about 100-150deg off. I wish I would have just put in the manifold to begin with though...do it right the first time.

Most people seem to put it where the casting button is where the pipes come together, you should see it when you get it apart. Others say about 3 inches or so out of the cylinder, the button has a little more to metal there to grab so that's where I did mine. -James

It really varies from vehicle to vehicle so there really isn't a set temp, I think the WRX is getting a bit hot at around 1650-1700F for a reference but the turbo and modifications can cause it to be a bit different than what you are looking for. Here's a quote from my Omori instructions, please excuse the engrish:
Best exhaust temp is little different from kinds of car, generally exaust temp, gasoline engine 850-900C(1550-1650F), rotary engine 900C(1650F), at full speed. Generally, thick fuel condition or ignition time is early, exhaust temp become high and become low at opposite condition.
Did you get all that The last sentence kind of lost me but I know the basics which are the more rich you are running the cooler it gets and the more timing advance the cooler it gets the opposite happens for a lean condition and less timing. Hope this helps a bit.-James
