Protune vs Street Tune

What is the difference between having your car protuned or using the street tuner software if you are taking it to a shop to get a custom tune done. Does one yield better results (higher hp/tq) than the other or are both basically doing the same thing?

Thanks

The protuner software allows more data to be manipulated i.e. more of the stock ecu's rom tables. The street tuner allows basic things to be changed. So in theory the Protuner software will yield better results, in the hands of an experienced tuner. The protuner software can only be used by an authorised protuner shop whereas the street tuner can be used by anyone.
