Potential risk running Cobb TBE without AP or Tune?
i just installed my cobb turbo back exhaust. sounds awesome and runs nice. i can feel the extra power. my rpms dont jump or anything like that, but the car does back fire when i hit the gas repeatedly (i love how it sounds sorry), so i guess im running a little rich? i plan on getting the access port in december. can it damage my car running it like that for awhile before i get the access port?
From my experience, yes you can and will worsen a already existing condition. Potentially wipe a motor. Remove the TBE or get it tuned ASAP. Do not run for any extended period configured this way.
As someone in another thread put it:
You've lived x amount of years with a wrx
You've had a wrx for x amount of time with a tbe, you can wait a month a half to install it. Its not worth risking engine damage. Also another option is Ed @ EQtuning is offering straight up tunes without needed an acessport now!

i dont get any boost spikes. it feels like it runs better than when it was stock. i really dont wanna put the stock setup back. going a month without a tune, how bad would that be?
The first time I met her she came up to me soaked in sweat, covered in grease, with a sway bar in her hand. She needed some help getting a bolt out that she had stripped. Since then he has been one of my dream girls. Now we chat when I go to the track. Nothing more. I'm a married dude. She's got a BF too. Nothing wrong with making some eyes at one another though. Yeah she kicks ***..

it can potentially destroy ur motor..
it can make it so that when u do get tuned the power numbers are not what u expect..
it can cause u to think ur car doesn't need a tune..
in the end..
take it off..
or deal with the possible damages..

If you ask a question, don't like the answer, then ask it again, does the answer change or something?

See the boost spikes really aren't the problem. The problem lies in the ecu the factory fuel mapping places your fuel curve into a lean condition, with a faster turbo spool the lean condition is extended, as the onset of boost happens earlier in the RPM range. A lean condition can lead detonation. Which can lead to wiped rod bearings, broken ring lands. Which will always lead to a 2K+ bill for a new motor. But what the hell do I know...

I was n00b enough to have dp, up, and cat back without a tune for a decent period of time (not saying you should do it), but luckily nothing happened to me because I did not drive hard on the street (huge relief). That extra power you are feeling is from a leaned out A/F ratio from all that extra free flowing air. Also, with your set up you might get be getting boost cut from ECU thinking you are running a lot more boost, again from all that extra flow. Repeated occurrence of those things is not a good thing for your engine since lean conditions cause detonation or misfires. So, can you drive with that set up untuned? Yes, if you absolutely freaking have to...but drive carefully, do not gun the car and do not push it than you should be okay, but you are still running a huge risk.

ok you all convinced me to just drop the money and just get the access port now instead of waiting til december. will the access port be ok for now before i get tuned up? and will it be ok for me to just keep driving my car until i get the access port? cobb ships pretty fast so it should be in within a week. what u guys think? just wanna let you guys know i appreciate the advice and input. i just wanna make sure i do things right.
