Anyone have the rough parameters for the oil temperature and oil pressure in a stock WRX? I just nstalled digital gauges from SPA Technique and need to set the computer in the gauges. Thanks John

 

I’ll partially answer my own question. I have had a SPA Techniques digital oil pressure / temperature gauge in my stock WRX for about a week. It is connected via an adapter at the oil filter. The gauge is accurate to .1 degree and .1 lb. Oil is new Mobile 1. Car has 7,000 miles.

Oil temperatures have run 190 to 208F (208F = 85F outside temp, AC on, traffic, low revs and at 4-5,000 revs for a sustained (5 minutes) time). I’ve not gone above 208F, but it’s not yet hot hot summer. I’ll probably start with the oil warning (on the gauge) at about 215F.

Oil pressure runs about 85-95lbs when the car is under throttle and about 30-35lbs at idle when the temperature is at 200F. It has never gone below 30. I’ll probably start with the oil warning (on the gauge) set at 25lbs.

A rule of thumb I have used with my elderly ****** is that one should see at least 10 lbs oil pressure for each 1,000rpm or shut off the engine. I don’t know if this is true, but the Jeep is 50 years old and on it’s original motor and bearings (I do not think I would drive this low in a turbo that can rev to 7,000rpm).
