Obd-ii
Hi Everyone,
I am hope that we can start a disscussion on OBD-II with a focus on WRX. I hope that we can gather and share information that will benifit all of us, in area such as reading and flash our ECU and other like fuel map and time etc. I understand that these topic are talked about widely, but they are so scattered. Maybe we can consolidate them all to here.
I hope this will go well.

I've been doing some research on OBD-II, but not enought to give other people advice about how to use it..
The reason I tried to get my head into OBD-II is that I've developed a java program, jEcu, for displaying engine characteristics on mobile devices (such as java-enabled phones).
My plan was to make jEcu run "realtime" using the OBD-II port on the WRX. My main problem atm. is that SonyEricsson has not released a COM api for Java for the P800 (www.sonyericsson.com/p800) mobile phone
The application also runs on the computer (if you got Java installed), and is downloadable from:
http://www.lovaas.org/espen/files/jEcu.zip
(Just unzip and double-click the jEcu.jar file)
Have a look at the application on:
http://www.lovaas.org/espen/main/smt6.html
At this moment, it only reads logfiles from like EcuTek and piggy-back SMT6 (www.perfectpower.com). If you're interrested in the program, and got a logfile from any aftermarket ECU I could make the application read it.
If anyone got OBD-II data-transfer examples for the WRX I'd be delighted to get some information

If you've got a java-phone, you should be able to run it though I don't know how to install the .jar file on other phones..
Could be I'd have to recompile jEcu with other libraries too though..

I'd be interrested if you get it to work with a normal com-port or usb

Neat Java app.... that is very cool.
This might help you... it's an OBD-II to RS-232 protocol converter that's commercially available:
http://www.multiplex-engineering.com/interfaces.htm
A guy who is using one of the converters from Muliplex talks about his project to hook it up to his van:
