Nitrous or Chip
ok guys i know you all should know the right answer for me on this one... well here we go. the turbo kit i found is the AVO Turbo kit for 1999 2.5 RS and it comes with yada yada yada, and a pre programmed performance chip, what i was wondering. is if i should get nitrous or not, because most nitrous say not to use if have a chip or something that increases your air/fuel ratio and that the nitrous would set off the balance and screw it up. what i want to know is should i get nitrous and not use the chip, or should i use the chip and be short a 75hp shot?

You need to decide on whether you want to run a turbo or nitrous. To run both is highly complicated and requires lots of tuning and skill.
Since the chip is pre-programmed for the turbo kit, I would not recommend that you also throw nitrous into the mix.
There is a user on this board that had a Zex nitrous kit and he did relatively well with it. I think he was on a 50-60 shot?? However he recently sold it for a turbo kit, and claims it's a world better then the nitrous. RS_NW is his name.

Thanks for the reply, yea i am aware that a turbo kit would be heck of a lot better than just some nitrous, and i was just wondering if i should get turbo and nitrous or just use turbo, thank you for your reply. helped a bunch and now saving $500 from nitrous kit.

You might have just saved the cost of a replacement motor, too. If I were ever going to go the nitrous route, I'd use it only to offset the additional lag of a big, slow-spooling turbo by figuring out how to incorporate a pressure switch to sense pre-determined boost, thereby shutting off the bottle.
I'm just not a believer in extended NO² use. In my personal opinion, nitrous is a finicky crutch that adds massive power, but also complexity because it requires a lot of extra cost controls for successful street use.

I second that... think of your car as an asset--because that's what it is. Unless you have the money for damage because of poor tuning. if you know what you're doing then have at it.. NOS it up

Nitrous Usage
Nitrous is only as dangerous as the person using it. Nitrous doesn't kill engines people do! Everyone seems to think nitrous is a form of black magic especially when paired with a turbo. Really it's not. Do your homework, install the right parts, take your time, don't chince on your system and it's really a lot of fun. There are risks involved sure but then again, I have seen some wicked stuff happen from too much boost! Do what your comfortable with and don't let anyone else tell you what to do. When it comes down to it....it's your $$$ and your car! Have fun with it.
