need help on STI ECU reset

Dear all, I would like some help on a funny case I experienced. Just a week ago I have installed a light weight pulley on my 2004 STI. I suspected that the mechanic had disconnected the battery during the installation but just before I went to the mechanic I filled my STI with regular petrol (presumedly low as it was an emergency and there was no super unleaded around). Now, I am experiencing lost of power (not at max boost I pressume some sort of timing retard) which I can't figure out which had caused this (the bad fuel or some other reason). I have heard from others that it might be the bad fuel that caused the lost of power. Could someone in this forum tell me how to reset the ECU in order to get things back to normal after I filled the car with some high octane fuel? (my STI is still stock with no other mods except for the light weight pulley). Any inputs would be appreciated...
I have an 02 WRX and my manual tells you not to run anything lower than 91 octane. If you don't have 91 octane gas available you should try to avoid running the car to hard to avoid detonation/knock. My understanding is that the ecu will pull timing when knock occurs.
To reset the ecu just undo the negative battery cable get in your car, hold the break pedal until the tail lights die out, reconnect the negative battery cable and that's it. After you fill up with good gas it might be best to run it a little before the reset.
