On an otherwise stock ignition wires alone will do nothing for you. If your due for serviceing and you are in need of replacements, you can't go wrong with them. If you go to nitrous and/or forced induction and beef up your ignition system, they will help.

They will help even with a relatively stock ignition, although if you aren't making a lot of extra power the benefit is mostly faster revving, as with a grounding kit.
