hello all,
i was just about to begin my foray into link tuning. i have an OBS with a 99 wrx sti in it. i've had the link for at least a year and as i've had problems with it, i've taken it to rallispec for minor tuning. decididng to be self suffient and since i moved to maine i decided to tune it myself and learn the intricicies of the link. rallispec hooked me up with a data logging tool and software(the packet is like 5 years old
) and i was about to purchase a laptop for tuning and general use and i was wondering what's the minimum requirements on memory, ram, graphics capabilities etc. that i would need.
right now there seems to be a little knock at full boost at around 3K-4K rpms. weirdly enough at like 5K at full boost it goes away. it really happens when i'm in 5th gear at like 3.5K or so and i'm trying to pass someone and i'm too lazy to shift to 4th. now of course i aways downshift when i'm going to go full boost but i think just a little enrichment and retarding the ignition abit at those rpms might nip that in the bud.
my other problem is cold starts don't seem to have enough fuel to start the car up. i have to pump the gas pedal abit then the car starts or else it just cranks forever. rallispec told me there's a cold starting parameter that i just need to tweak to add more fuel.
this (hopefully) will be possible when i get my laptop.
rallispec has told me to call them if i had any tuning questions, but i'd hate to constantly badger them, and they've only used the hand held unit and never tuned or data logged with a laptop. so i'm sure i'll be asking many questions in this forum when i get my laptop and start tuning so i'm thanking all you good ppl in advance!

If you can, try and get in contact with skywalker, he has a lot of experience with the Link and can probably help you out.

i'm sure it looked ok why you typoed it and when it got posted it got all messed up.

my girlfriend actually figured out your little pic unique. it actually came out ok i just didn't see it at first. sorta like a magic eye thingee. its two ppl humping for those that can't see it.
i'm sure it looked ok why you typoed it and when it got posted it got all messed up.

but can anyone tell me what the minimun memory requiremnets or for the laptop..... what is the prefered amount too? some really cheap used laptops are available online...

Hi Lou,
Well preferred is the best thing you can get. As for minunum requirements, I would say at the bare min a 100mhz pentium, with about 32-64 megs of ram and 500 megs of space should do you.
Though on ebay I would suggest a 300-400mhz, will do quite well.
So where in Maine do you live? I might be flying out there sometime soon anyway.
Anyway as for tuning help, let me know if you need any.

i'm actually gonna get a hp P3 600mhtz for like $250 ... pretty lucky, my friend's company is getting rid of some old inventory so i'm making out like a bandit. so i should be tuning soon and i'm sure i'm gonna be picking your brain soon dude so thanx in advance.
