I have a new sti.What's next?
I have a new sti.I am new to turbos and ecu's.I am getting a new intake and turbo back exhuast.what level should I start retunning my computer? What computer turnning program should I use?How about fuel system upgrades. How far can I push my stock fuel system?
I have very rarely said this but "Search". With that said let me see if i can help. I own a WRX but I may be able to help with general things. Also congrats on the buy and welcome to the club.
1. Don't waste your money on an Intake. There are many threads on here about intakes. On the STi and WRX for that matter unless you have big HP or a Front Mount Intercooler(FMIC) it may hurt more than help. If you look for the Intake depate thread and you still want and Intake, go for it. That said a lot of pepole do have intakes and some have had issues and some have not.
2. A turbo back on an STi is a good thing. However you need to watch out for boost creep. I am not very good a technical descriptions but my best deffinition of boost creep is that when you go WOT in the higher gears your boost just keeps climbing until you hit fuel cut. There are also many threads on the issue just search under "boost creep". I belive that some have had luck with using EM to fix this issue and some have had to do porting to the wastegate side of the turbo exhaust housing.
3. You will be able to get the most out of wny mod that you do with some sort of engine management(EM). That said, there are many tuners and types of EM. From what i hear Vishnu is very good, and i have had good luck with Cobb. You may have local tuners in your area who use ECUtek or utec. Just remember that you will get opinions from both side of the fence when it comes to what tuners people like. Just make informed decisions and form your own opinions.
I think you made the right desicion buy checking out a forum they are great places to get info. Also i would check out the threads in your area and get together with some fellow suby brothers and sisters. They will be able to help you a lot. Good luck, enjoy the car nad drive safely.
