help, p0244

I am getting p0244 for the second time this week. I have never gotten this code and I have topped off at higher speeds than what I was going. Could it be the cold air? Help please.

Overboost, most likely attributed to the cold weather we're having here in Kalifornia.

post your mods, and do a search please.

I've not seen a waste gate CEL before, but I imagine it happens at higher boost levels.

Under what conditions does this happen?
Have you adjusted your wastegate actuator at all?
Do you have the stock turbo?
Do you have a 3 port boost solenoid or a Manual/Electric boost controller?
Do you have engine management?

One thing you can do is download a data logging tool like ECUExplorer(http://www.openecu.org) or the one from http://www.openecu.org and start logging boost related items.

Yeah, I just got off the phone with Cobb and they said it was creep. I have a 3" TBE with Cobb stage 2 map.I just need to get the fuel cut tuned out of the map.

Sounds like the FBC might be malfunctioning. Do you have a boost gauge and if you do what are you seeing when you punch it in 5th?

You might want to try cleaning your FBC. If that doesn't work try swapping FBC's before you go spending any $.

I'll look in my service manual and get back to you later.

Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean but I don't know if I'd go doing that. If you over boost too much and you don't hit fuel cut whats going to stop the engine from going BOOM?

What is FBC? Fuel Boost Controller? Factory Boost Controller?

You deffinately need atleast a tune to take care of this. Sometimes even tuning can't alleviate the more severe cases of boost creep. In such cases you would need to get the wastegate ported to fix the issue.

Thanks

I thought boost creep could only be fixed by porting the waste gate or increasing post turbo back pressure and tuning did nothing for it. Isn't boost creep when the waste gate is unable to bypass enough exhaust flow around the turbine. Please explain how tuning fixes boost creep.

I'll admit I don't know much about the 2.5's so please understand my ignorance if I'm way off.

You're correct actually. True boost creep can only be fixed by porting the wastegate and tuning won't help it. Many people, however, mistake an impropper tune for boost creep and assume that its purely a mechanical issue. This happens a lot when people run exhaust mods with the stock ECU and end up hitting fuel cut because the programmed wastegate duty cycles are too high for that setup. In such cases, a good tune can alleviate any so-called boost creep in most cars.

Thanks
