The UTEC was my first major mod. I love it. I am currently running the stage 1 map. Because I don't have the Turbo back exhaust yet. According to the TXS web site once I get the exhaust I will be in the range of 300 Crank HP. The best part of the UTEC is the range of power you can have from valet mode to stage 4 at the flick of a switch. You can have a map for your GF or wife that will de-tune the car and then add a couple gallons of tolulene and take advantage of the higher octane value.
On an other wise stock car the gains are very impressive if you enjoy tweaking your car then I think the UTEC is the way to go if you want plug and ply then go with a reflash.

Helo,
What maps do the utec come with? And how do you know
which map is which number? Did utec come with paperwork
on detailing what map is what, or did you tell turboxs which
maps you wanted and in what order?

The Utec will come with the maps that you request at the time of your order. With a laptop hooked up you can go to the edit map menu and it will display what map is in what spot. There was a sheet that came in the box that told me what map was in what spot and TurboXS asked me what and where the maps were.
Hope that helps. If you haven't gotten your Utec yet then get the manual here http://www.wrxhackers.com/files/UTECUserManual25b.pdf
I read it about 3 times before I got the UTEC.

Ouch that sucks, well at least it looks like your IC is in one piece. How did you turn out, and what did you hit?

I can't compare the UTEC with any other engine management, but it is a very worthwhile addition to your car.
The logging capability is an awesome tool.
On a car with no logging capability you don't know if you're car is knocking. As soon as you pull to a stop after logging for a while....like down the 1/4 mile, you can immediately tune out any knock by either adding fuel or setting the timing a little lower. Oh, and even before you concern yourself with any knock events, the UTEC has already retarded timing; when you want it to and only as much as you tell it to, so you don't have to worry as much about the damage you might have been facing.
The UTEC can control your boost so you don't have to go out and buy a boost controller.
Those are the most apparent capabilities that I tinker with most often. I live in Hawaii which has no AWD dynos, so it's probably pretty evident from what I wrote above that I'm more interested in being safe than I am in trying to pull every tenth I can for drag racing (although I wish I could)
