Many third party tuners can reflash the ECU back to stock mapping but don't know if they can remove all traces of EcuTek or not. If you are thinking about engine management you might consider the Cobb AccessPORT. I think that uplugging the unit leaves the ECU unmodified.

I am now at a stage 4 using EcuTek. It has been fine but I am now wanting to get into water/methanol injection and race gas maps. I know that the accessport can handle (up to 3 maps?). With the reflash on the stock ECU, can I now put on the Cobb and have up to 4 maps?
1) Current map (no water/alky injection, 92 octane) - i.e. turn off the cobb
2) 92 octane with wather/alky injection
3) race gas with water/alky injection
4) valet map

Also, I have the Blitz SBC - can I wire this into the cobb? Finally, what does the cobb retail for?

Thanks

I believe the Cobb AP map overwrites the ECUtek map.

Yeah, the Cobb AP will wipe out the ECUtek license information. And it can have 10 maps stored on the hand held unit.

The EcuTek license is not transferable like the Cobb AP is.
Once the EcuTek license is flashed on, there is no taking it off. Hopefully this will change but is doubtful.

The Cobb AP on the other hand, allows you to store maps on the AP its self, some real time, some base maps. Plus you can download new ones from cobb's website and install them.
It is a great product for the average consumer that might not want to keep EcuTek for ever.
It also allows your tuner to make changes to your map if you add mods or something, then they can just e-mail you the file and you can try it out.

Edit:
The Cobb AP can be 'un-married' from the ECU, which esentially flashes a stock map back on to the ECU that no longer has the cobb map.

Damn, now I am totally confused. Maybe I was thinking of the utec? Here is a better question. Now that I am running out of options with EcuTek, what is the next step in engine management?

Hmm, the next step in engine management would be a stand alone system, like Hydra. But I have a hard time recomending it to anyone, as it is certainly not for your average user.

here is the deal... while I am not a pro, I am not completely out of the loop. I am currently running Stage 4... here is the car thus far -

INTAKE, TURBO, IC AND EXHAUST SYSTEMS
Intake - Perrin Big MAF
Turbo Inlet Pipe - Perrin Silicone intake piping
Turbo - FP (forced performance) Red, its a Garret/Mitsubishi hybrid
BOV - Perrin performance BOV
FMIC - Perrin Front Mount Intercooler with custom red piping, black silicone, T-bolt pipe clamps.
Oil Catch Can - Perrin Oil Catch Can, mounted on firewall.
Header - DC Sport Header
Up-Pipe - PDE Uppipe
Down pipe - PDE Down-pipe
Cat back exhaust - DC Sport Cat back exhaust

FUEL SYSTEMS
Fuel Pump - Walbro 255 L/hr fuel pump
Injectors - Perrin modified STI injectors to 816cc at 43 psi
Fuel Lines - Goodyear stainless steel braided
Fuel Pressure Regulator - Aeromotive custom incremental gain fuel pressure regulator
Fuel Rails - Perrin high flow fuel rails

COOLING
Oil cooler
Perrin coolant catch can

SUSPENSION/ BREAKING
Dampeners: Tein Flex Coilover Dampeners with EDFC
Sway-bars: Perrin 3 pt adjustable front and rear sway-bars
End-links: Perrin End-links
Strut tower bar: DC Sport Titanium strut tower bar
Break lines: Goodyear stainless steel break lines
Break Pads: EBC Greenstuff pads in the front and EBC Redstuff in the rears.

SAFETY
Sparco harness bar
Driver and passenger 3" sparco 4pt harnesses

ENGINE MANAGEMENT / BOOST CONTROL / GAUGES
Ecutek reflash w/ 92 octane map
Blitz Graphical Sequential boost controller
Omoni Oil Temperature Gauge
Omoni EGT Gauge
Perrin Dual Gauge Pod

Well, that's it. Performance wise, the car is putting 360 horsepower to the wheels on a mustang 4wd dyno. Boost is set for a maximum of 20.5 psi and A/F ratios are very conservative (EGT temps around 1500 degrees F).

Future mods will consist of the following:
Water/alky injection
Upgraded radiator
Same size (but lighter) crank pulley
Radiator Shroud
Replace and relocate the rear mount of the front transverse link (a.k.a. front control arm)
Control arms
Shift bushings
Short throw shifter

Engine management has always been the "last" frontier for me - understanding my weakness is in this area, I have left the tuning to the pros at PDX Tuning here in Portland Or. They have done a great job and i havn't had any issues. So, if it were you... what is next. While this is my current daily driver, I am turning it into a track car.

Is the Hydra the next step? Utec?

You better believe that I will support my tuners! I just like to obtain as much information as possible before talking with them. Hell, Im an engineer - I love this stuff. Besides, opinions are like ... well you know what they are like. You all have an opinion, I love to hear them and PDX has an opinion. Get all the opinions and facts possible and then make a decision.

Ill be honest (I don't mean to sound sacraligious) but I havn't run the quarter. I just havn't been into drag racing and have been trying to build the car for the curves. I just love destroying Porsche GT-2s and GT-3s and 911s! Its so enjoyable to see the faces of these super rich guys in their leather Porsche jackets and (even worse) leather Porshe hats pull over to the right to wave you past! When you get to the track, they won't even look at you - after the day is done, they are hovering around your engine and are pissed that their $120,000 machine just got eaten by a Subaru!

Stay safe in Iraq, we need more Suby team mates back here in the US! Something has to keep the Porsche and M3 guys's ego under control!
