ECU question

I 've been debating for some time on whether or not to upgrade the engine management on my 04 WRX. I was leaning toward the Accessport but I have also heard good things about the Vishnu relash as well.

My main concern is that I have quite a bit of warranty left on my car. (I'm at 8k mi) From what I understand no reflash is undetectable. Ex. if the dealer data-logs your car they will be able to see certain values (boost psi. etc) higher than normal.

Would it be feasible to purchase a 2nd ECU and have it reflashed, keep the stock one and swap it out if there was ever an issue (service work etc)? Has anyone done this? I don't know the price on one but I do work for a dealership (not Subaru) and could get one at cost.

That's a possibility, although most would consider it dishonest . Also, FYI: any tuner can reflash your ECU back to stock on request.

Thanks

The only problem with that is that there is absolutely no one who does reflashes around here (RI). I need the car as a daily driver so I really can't afford any downtime. It would take at least a couple of days to send one out I assume.

The thought has definitely crossed my mind though. I did have to replace one piston on this car at about 5k due to improperly seated rings. I want some mild performance gains without having to worry about warranty issues. It seems that these two things may be mutually exclusive but I don't want to give up hope just yet.

if you can't afford any down time and you just want mild gains sounds like the axcessport would be a good choice cause you won't have to send out your ecu and you can return it to stock when ever you want

SUDN RSH I've heard that even the Accessport is detectable. Not the map itself but using a data-logger a dealer can tell that the values stored in the ECU are higher than normal. So there goes that idea for me at least. I'm going to look into the cost of an ECU then decide.

well if you just remove the Accessport before taking it to the dealer then when they data log it should all me at stock levels then if when they are done just reinstall it. kind of a pain but its easyer than swaping the ECU IMO.
