Please Help Me I'm scared !!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone,

I live in Tahiti (French Polynesia) and i'm a newbee to forums. I really need to have an answer to my question because i'm really worrying about my engine life.

Please can anyone tell me if it is normal to run an A/F ratio around 13,5 to 14+???? I know that it is very lean. I don't have any CEL, the car's running good but i'm sure something is wrong.
So there is the story: I crashed the front of my car in a rally race and my APS DR725 has been touched (big hole on it). So i fixed everything with new bumper etc.... and I bought a new FMIC (the same model than i had). So it took about 1 month to get all the parts since tahiti is very far from everything. Then when i started the car evertyhing was OK except the A/F. I don't have A/F gauge but just an apexi turbo timer that can show aproximatively the A/F. Before my crash when i was pushing the car very hard it showed around 11- to 12+ but now even if i'm spirited driving it's still around 13 to 14+. The only things that changed from before is the NEW APS FMIC, the ambiant temperature (now it's very hot in Tahiti, around 105°F) and i think that's all. I was wondering if the engine management from ECUTEK could has been reseted since i disconected the battery for more than 1 month.

Please let me know what you think. I'm really happy to share your community it's a little bit more fun than BMW's forums (My wife and i own an M3 E46 with a Stage 2 supercharger that pulls about 500 BHP).

Thank you and best regards.

Some EcuTek reflashed ECUs will reset to 'valet' mode after a battery disconnect. Turn the ignition key to the 'on' position (no need to start engine), press and hold throttle pedal to the floor, depress dashboard rear window defroster button. Release throttle and turn off rear window defroster. You may start the engine normally. Not all EcuTek reflashes will default to this mode. Some custom reflashes will toggle a slightly different tuning map instead of valet mode.

This may not be your problem anyway since the valet mode does not cause a car to run that lean under boost, it mainly limits boost to about 7 or 8 lbs.

Disconnecting battery power for several weeks does not cause the ECU to lose an EcuTek tune. The reflash is flashed to non-volatile memory meaning it is not power-dependent to retain the tune.

You might consult with the tuner that supplied your EcuTek reflash or reflashed ECU. You might have to send the unit back to them.

That's actually what I have to do to toggle back to my high-output map with my off-the-shelf Vishnu tune after the battery has been disconnected. The early EcuTek reflashes from Vishnu did not incorporate this toggle. I don't know if other tuners follow the same practices when it comes to reflashes or not.

Are there any negative effects from resetting the ecu too many times? Before I did the 2 CEL fixes (for uppipe and rear o2) I was resetting the ecu alot.

No negative effects. Keep in mind that the service manual specifies disconnecting the battery for any electrical repairs as well as many mechanical repairs for safety reasons. Each time a technician disconnects the battery, the ECU is reset, so I doubt there is any harm done when we 'try this at home'.

Please can anyone tell me how come i'm running more lean right now than before my crash? I just need to know where to start? Should i buy a Hydra EMS to retune the ecu, should i buy a new fuel filter or clean the injectors, check the hoses that can have moved during the shock....i really don't know.
