CEL - knock sensor (was: lil help please)

sup guys... i have an 01' 2.5 and my check engine light recently came on. i had it checked out and they told me it was an engine knock sensor...well i have absolutely no idea what that does but they want $250 to fix it.. i know i can do it myself i was just wondering if anyone knew what it did and how important it was?

Are they saying you have a bad knock sensor or is the car haveing a problem with knock? Here is a link that explains what knock is and a knock sensor is exactly what it sounds like, a sensor that detects knock http://www.stanford.edu/~bmoses/knock.html. i have no idea what a cel code is, but its not engine knock everything is running fine which is why i dont know if its worth it to spend 250 to have the dealership do it

find out what the actual code is. we can't really help you at all otherwise. the dealership should be happy to tell you... other wise it sounds fishy.
